Conclusion

Note:The download will be up at the following URL on the morning of the 28th.

After what seemed like an eternity, SlingPlayer Mobile for PalmOS is finally here, albeit a limited-time Beta, with the full commercial version to follow at a date still uncertain. If you have a Slingbox (any model) or have been considering getting one, and you have a 700p on a high-speed network, preferably an unlimited data plan, this is the program you've been waiting for.

If you're a Treo 680 and Slingbox owner, you've got nothing to lose by trying out the SPM for PalmOS Beta. I don't have a 680 so I can't tell you how it'll perform on that Treo, but it won't cost you anything to try it out for a month and then buy the program if you're satisfied with its functionality.

If you're not sure which Slingbox is right for you, spend some time on Sling's site and read and understand the differences between the different models. You'll also want to check out the independently-run Sling Community to exchange your thoughts and opinions with other SPM users, and learn tips and tricks from the seasoned pros.

PalmOS SPM will work with basic no-box Analog cable, digital cable, or full-blown home theatre systems with many components, depending on which Slingbox you own or decide to buy.

You can carry around ALL your home channels in your hand, watch them anywhere you can get an adequate data speed, and I think you'll be blown away by the quality. I was.

There are a few caveats (no full screen play, no background play) but SPM is very slick, versatile, compelling, and fun.

Enjoy!
