Would you recommend Bluetooth Retro Handset ?

Love It!!!
I truly love this handset. Sound is very good, the look on people faces is priceless, especially when they think your just goofing around but when you hand them the handset and someone is actually talking that is the priceless moment. The only draw back is the location of the answer button. Being on the bottom it occasionally gets bumped when adjusting the handset during a conversation thus disconnecting the call. But don't let that stop you, it is well worth it. I wish there was a belt holder accessory also... Are you Think Geek guys listening?

Good receive sound but transmit is poor.
You sound like you're talking in a bucket to those you call. Cool idea, bad engineering.

It's way cool!!!
I just purchased one of these and like several others, I was excited to try it out, not to mention the design features and old-style telephone design. I'm into old stuff but I do like my modern conveniences too. I had no trouble pairing it up with my Motorola KAZR cell and when I tried it, it sounded fine to me. But when My son called from home a few hundred miles away, he complained about echo and hearing himself as he spoke to me. After some experimenting I turned it off and spokew to him directly on my cell. I was totally disappointed with what he said so the nexty day I fired it up again and then called myself from my home landline. I walked into another room and said some silly things and sure enough I could hear myself talking back to me. Not good. Then I got to this sight and started reading the reviews until I came across one where the reviewer said,"Perhaps it needs some cotton in the handle, just like the real thing used to have." Now why didn't I think of that one? After all, I'm an old phone guy myself and remember how the old phones really did have cotton stuffed into the handles. So I found my wife's stash of treasured cotton balls and stole two of them from her when she wasn't looking and stuffed them into the old/new Retro BlueTooth handset. By the way, similar to the original handsets of their time, the mouthpieces and earpieces unscrew from the handset. I stuffed the cotton into each end and tested it. After calling myself again, unlike the initial test, I did not hear myself or experience the same echoeing effects. The real test will be when my son calls me again and he gives it a passing grade. So if that test goes well, I would recommend htis item to others with a suggestion to add some cotton balls to each end.

Sound quality is terrible!
I could hear the callers I was speaking with clearly, but here are quotes from two people I talked to on this phone: 1. This phone is great if you are trying to disguise your voice. 2. You sound like Corky from the show "Life Goes On". Needless to say, I requested an RGA the next day and sent it back. This was a great idea, but there was zero consideration given to sound quality.

IT DOESN'T WORK!!!
I was all excited about getting this. I hate the look of walking around looking like you've been 'Borged with a USB junk drive hanging out your ear. I also wanted better sound quality for phone calls and thought this might do the trick. But you have to be able to pair it before you can talk on it, right? Right! Tried to pair it with my Treo 700p. It wouldn't. Tried to pair it with my wife's Treo 700p. It wouldn't. So I sent it back for an exchange. A week later, the exchanged phone came. I fully charged it and tried to pair it with my phone. It wouldn't. Tried my wife's phone. NOTHING! I'm sending it back for a refund. VERY disappointing! Is this a Treo device compatibility problem? Is this a ThinkGeek Retro Handset problem? Is this a Bluetooth problem? I DON'T KNOW!!!! It claims to be Bluetooth 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 compatible. It should work, right? WRONG!!! Bluetooth -- Get your Blueshit together!

Works better than my $100 Jabra
This device is a wonderful return (of sorts) to an era when function ALWAYS trumped form and products were designed to work properly and last forever. At half the price (or less) of most of the poorly designed, overpriced junk that currently dominates the Bluetooth hands-free market, this throwback works extremely well, just like its predecessor. Unlike its trendy little cousins that don't fit properly, won't stay in place, and are nearly impossible to hear, this marriage of tried-&-true design with Bluetooth technology is an all-around winner. The classic design allows for easy exclusion of all sound except the caller simply by holding the handset comfortably against the ear. Outgoing sound quality is also outstanding. I've paired this handset with three different smartphones and a pocket PC, and everybody I've called says the sound is better than my Jabras and Motorolas, and nearly as good as my Jawbone. (Of course, the Jawbone's background-noise canceling makes for excellent voice transmission, but it fits poorly and the incoming sound level is pathetic) I did notice that a couple of other reviewers complained about the sound, but their "experience" is so markedly different from mine that I can't help but wonder if they are actually just jealous competitors. The only thing that remains unknown about this great gadget is its durability. There is no warranty per se, but as cheap as it is, I'm going to buy another as a spare. If what you want from your Bluetooth headset is to hear and be heard, this may be the absolute best choice out there ... plus, it's deliciously geeky!

makes you sounds like a muffled animal.
I unpacked this phone, charged it and called my friends. After being humiliated three times being described as "a muffled animal" "talking through a pillow" and "like i'm in an echo chamber" I've decided to return this POS.

It's useful!
Sometimes the older things are the best. I miss normal shaped telephone handsets.
