The Seidio Rubberized Ultraslim case – a unique product I really wanted to like but..

Tue Jun 12, 2007 - 9:55 AM EDT - By Harv Laser

Conclusion

Is a dime's worth of injection-molded, rubber-coated plastic worth $29.95? That's a decision for you and your wallet to make. Obviously, you're not just paying for the RU's two-part plastic halves, but the hours of R&D, and tooling that went into its design and manufacture.

If you buy the Seidio Rubberized Ultraslim case and it has that "P" sticker on the inside bottom half, you have the same one I have, the revised version that snaps shut properly, (unless they've stopped putting that "P" sticker in them).. although as you can see from my photographs, there's still a bit of a gap on both sides, even when it is correctly and firmly and audibly snapped shut.

The optional black Napa leather side pouch, with soft lining, magnetic closure, and leather covered, heavy-duty, springy belt clip that holds the Treo WHILE it's in the RU case is an option you might want to consider, as it's a nice looking, well-made piece. Your RU-encased Treo might fit in other mfr's cases too, you'll just have to try what cases you own to find out. Some have enough "give" to take a 1.2mm fatter Treo, some don't.

The RU is a minimalist case, probably the thinnest and lightest Treo hard case there is. Although all of its cut-outs are basically perfect, It doesn't offer ANY frontal protection to speak of, and snapping it together, even WITH the instruction sheet in front of you is a chore, although after you've done it a few times, it gets easier. How long those very shallow clips and rubberized coating will last, after a lot of snapping, unsnapping, and handling, is anyone's guess.
