The Inside-Straight Dope
LDW's Video Poker Teacher IS a useful VP sim that will help hone your skills and teach you the basics of proper game play, before you step foot in a real casino and whip out your wallet. If going head to head with live dealers is intimidating for you (and for a lot of folks, it is), and you find yanking slot machine handles just too mindless, then VP could just turn into your favorite game, but ONLY park yourself in front of a machine when you know correct play. This PalmOS app will help get you to that goal.
The program could definitely use slicker, more updated graphics. It would be nice if LDW spent some time to Treo-ize the game, giving it a more realistic look and better sound effects, and if you agree, I encourage you to email them and suggest same.
Otherwise, this inexpensive program does its job exceptionally, despite the not-so-proper (wishful thinking) pay tables and the occasional bad call on how to manage a hand.
If youre just looking for a video poker simulator to play while relaxing on the couch, VPT may not be for you, but if you want to hone your game skills, or dive into gambling at a level above blackjack and slots, this handy and friendly little program is just the card to hit.
