Note: The TreoCentral TreoCast is on hiatus because of CES until later this month.
An interesting article over at Palm Infocenter caught my eye yesterday regarding Palm's next generation OS. PIC seems to have recently learned of the code-name being used around Palm Inc. from a reliable source. According to PIC, the internal code name for Palm's next generation OS is Nova. Hmmm, that has a nice ring to it.
From the PIC article:
The current release schedule being discussed by Palm management is to announce and get Nova out to developers in some form later this calendar year. I've heard reports from inside the company that Nova is presently being demoed and tested internally on an unreleased future Palm device code-named Zeppelin.
Statements made by Palm executives indicate that Palm will be making some partner and developer announcements around Nova later in 2008. The earliest estimates for when it will actually ship on new Palm hardware is currently February 2009.
Zeppelin, huh? That's interesting because I recall Malatesta finding that juicy bit of info about Zeppelin in the FCC documents that he read through recently. And Malatesta's findings suggested that the Zeppelin might be the rumored Treo 800 model.
I look forward to hearing more about Nova. February 2009 is a long ways off, but at least maybe we'll get to hear some juicy details regarding Nova before then. Stay tuned and if we get wind of any, we'll be sure to let ya know.
