Sprint Services

Our plan and extra features

Michael: Sprint had a multitude of extra features that they set us up with our total bill each month would have been $125. This gave us 1000 peak minutes, and 6000 night and weekend minutes. It also gave us 25 MB of data, and standard features like Caller-ID, three-way, and voicemail.

One of the two other extras was Voice Command. The Treo itself cant do voice recognition, but Sprints servers can. You dial *, and are immediately connected to Voice Command. From there you can dial a phone number by saying something like Call Home. You can also add phone numbers to your address book and more.

However, it is much easier to add phone numbers through the online interface that Sprint offers. Voice Command was simple, but it was a lot slower than just tapping the number in the speed dial. It was for this reason that I never used it. However while driving or doing other tasks, not having to search for the number is a blessing.

We werent ever able to take a look at Business Connect, but Sprint has developed a fairly advanced set of programs to get your Exchange and Lotus notes powered email, calendar and contacts brought to you through Blazer on a WAP page.

Dieter: The cost of entry for Sprints Vision services is at least reasonable you can get a plan with a boatload of minutes and 2 MBs per month for $45 US. Overage isnt cheap on the data side, however. All in all, I would have to say that for 2.5G/3G/whateverG cost, Sprint PCS has the slight edge over its competitors.

Account Management

Michael: After working with AT&T, Voicestream, and now Sprint, I have to say that Sprint has the best online account management of all. Once you log in to the 128 bit encrypted SSL page (the cause of many problems for me until I realized that I was running 56 bit encryption.. thats windows for you all folks), you are greeted with a portal offering everything from help to your amount of remaining minutes (no data usage stats yet). Sprint has put a lot of power into this, allowing users to add or delete features from their plan to changing a whole range of options. This page is great, and I really wish that all the major carriers had this much information available this easily.

Dieter: I have to agree there, though T-Mobile is slowly getting better. Sprint has a whole lot of information available to you but make sure to keep your many passwords straight one for voicemail, one for the website, one for your Vision account, and if youd like, one more for Business Connect.
